HUGS Volunteer Ministry

First Lutheran's Volunteer Ministry is now called HUGS!

This change helps us to focus our efforts in putting Hospitality first in all we do.

Matthew 25:40

The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine,

you did for me.'

  • The Hospitality team includes Snack Cart and Engagement Host volunteers.

Snack Cart volunteers host refreshments in the Narthex before and after worship on Sunday mornings. (They work in teams of two)

Engagement Hosts assist guests and members with way finding, sign-up sheets, and answering questions. (Engagement Hosts work independently or in pairs)

  • Ushers assist in a variety of ways before, during, and after each worship service. They work in teams of 4.

Prior to worship, ushers assist worshipers with finding seats in the Sanctuary and providing bulletins.

During worship, ushers collect offering, help worshipers as needed, take attendance, and assist with communion.

After each worship service, ushers make sure the sanctuary is tidy and ready for the next service, and send worshipers with a friendly greeting.

  • Greeters are the first people that you will meet as you enter the church!

Greeters are stationed at our two primary entrances and provide a warm welcome to all who enter, and can also assist in way finding. Greeters work in two teams of two.

  • The Server team includes Lectors, Communion Assistants, and Acolytes.

Lectors assist with leading Traditional worship services by reading scripture and prayers, helping with Holy Communion distribution, and assisting the Pastors as needed. Lectors work independently.

Communion Assistants work as a team to distribute Holy Communion at every service. There are typically 3 or 4 assistants per service.

Acolytes are responsible for lighting and extinguishing the candles on the Altar, and assisting the pastors. On High Holidays (Christmas and Easter) they also take part in special processions. Acolytes serve independently.

what people are saying...

about volunteering as a greeter

“I remember how much courage it took me the first time I walked in. A friendly face and greeting help set a start for a good worship experience for both guest and regular worshippers.” – Carol Lakin-Vecellio
