Connect & Grow with Other Men
Our men's ministry team, known as the "Guy Squad," meets every-other month to plan movie nights, fun trips, book studies, and service projects. We intentionally try to engage men in their 20's, 30's, and 40's who traditionally haven't had a strong interest in church and meet them on their level.
Men's Movie Night & Dinner
5-8 p.m. Sat. Jan. 24, 2026
Guys over 18 get inspired with a steak dinner and the movie "Alpha" about a young man in caveman times who tries to get home against overwhelming odds during winter with the help of a lone wolf. We'll gather 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. Jan. 24, 2026. NEW LOCATION: We will meet in the newly renovated Youth Room at FLC on the giant projector screen! Cost is $25. This event is open to friends and family members.
Family bingo night
Pizza, Root Beer Floats & Fun!
Join us for Family Bingo Night 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sat. Feb. 21 in the Youth Room at First Lutheran Church. We'll cook Papa Murphy’s pizza make root beer floats, and pop fresh popcorn. Small prizes for the winners and fun for the whole family. Cost is $5 per person/max of $20 per family.

Learn to Speak Your Partner's Language
Want to give your relationship a kick start for Valentine’s Day? Learn to speak each other’s love language! Between busy schedules and long days expressing love can fall by the wayside. We'll discuss The New York Times #1 Best Seller “The Five Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts” at 10:10-10:55 a.m. Sunday, March 1 in the Youth Room at First Lutheran Church. You will learn the five ways we both show love and feel loved. Learn to say “I love you” in your partner’s language and hear it back from them clearly. Cost is $10 per couple ($20 if you want two books).

Shoot Some Stick March 7
The First Lutheran Guy Squad is hosting an amateur pool night at 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 7 at Fat Wally's. Have a beer, play a little pool, and have a little fun. We’ll have the Iowa-Michigan game on TV. Keith Abkes says, “It’s a lot of fun. We do a tournament format so you are assured at least two games. Then you can stick around and play pick-up games and chat. Guys don’t want to leave!” Bring a friend from outside of FLC. Cost is $10. Must be over 21.
Men's Pickleball Night
Do Some Stretching OR ELSE!
Guys, grab your Pickleball paddle or borrow one of ours for a fun night of the popular sport that provides great exercise for people of all skill level and abilities. We'll gather at 7-9 p.m. Thurs. March 26 at Smithfield Courts in SW Cedar Rapids. Invite a friend to come with you. Cost is $10.
Dad & Me karaoke
Watch Your Old Man Have a Blast Embarrassing Himself
Kids, put on your fancy dinner clothes and grab your Dad because it's time to sing! Join us 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, April 10 for a night you'll always remember as our professional DJ helps you and your Dad sing along to all your favorite hits. Cost is $30 and includes a plated meal, sparkling grape juice, music, and fun.
family mini-golf & ice cream
Make a Hole-in-One of Memories
Bring the entire family for a little mini-golf, ice cream, and fun at Airport National Golf Course at 3-5 p.m. Sunday, May 31. Come celebrate the end of the school year and the start of summer. We're encouraging everyone to invite a neighbor family to come with you! The event is free (normally $9) and includes a round of mini-golf and ice cream. This is thanks to our H3GO Outreach Team to promote our children (and us) to do outreach in a way that's fun for them.
