funerals & Memorials

we walk together with you

The Funeral Liturgy is the central liturgical celebration of the Christian community for the deceased, whether you are a church member or not.  At the Funeral Liturgy, the Church gathers with the family and friends of the deceased to give praise and thanks to God for Christ’s victory over sin and death, to commend the deceased to God’s tender mercy and compassion, and to seek strength in the proclamation of the Liturgy.

Planning a funeral

we're here to serve and comfort your family

Please contact the church office at (319) 365-1494 to find an available day and pastor to conduct the service.  After doing so, the pastor will meet with you to gather some stories and shape the worship service.  We work with all funeral homes in the area.  If you do not use a funeral home, to ensure that everything gets taken care of, please use this checklist.

Luncheons

Gathering for a Meal Together

Many families opt to have a lunch along with their funeral services. This is especially good if family and friends come from out of town and may be traveling awhile.

For the lunches, the family will cover the cost of meat, cheese and buns for sandwiches (which we take care of ordering & preparing) , and our member-volunteers will donate sides, dishes, salads, and desserts for your family!  Another volunteer team of members will come to host, serve, and clean up after the meal. This is our way as your church family to care for one another in times of need.
