A New Book for the New Year
Suffering, fear, and heartache and can overwhelm us when we look
at the world around us. But when we look a little deeper, we can also see that
compassion—loving and serving another in the midst of suffering—is present
even more. Compassion is caring that brings together our hearts and hands. It is a
choice that requires us to bring healing to our own suffering so that we can choose
to reach out to others, even those we might otherwise choose not to care for.
Join Deborah Hansen, Director of Spiritual Formation, for a 6-week study of Boundless
Compassion: Creating a Way of Life by Joyce Rupp. Chapters include: Choosing
Compassion as a Way of Life, Welcoming Ourselves, and From Hostility to Hospitality.
Expect our lively discussions to be challenging, stretching, affirming, and
practical. Books will be available at the first meeting, but you may want to pick
a copy up ahead of time as we will discuss the introduction and chapter one our
first meeting. But don’t worry if you aren’t able to do the advance reading! Our
discussion times never require you to have done so. The cost of the book is $15.
