Becoming a Member

We are excited that you are considering becoming a member of First Lutheran!  People do not need to be members to participate in congregation life; but becoming a member is about making a commitment to participating in and supporting ministry. It is also a technical step to being able to vote in congregation meetings, or hold a leadership position like being on the church council.

The process of becoming a member is divided into three phases:

• Discover – Make your first connections and join in a First Steps Session.

• More – Complete the official membership application, and celebrate joining!

• Together – Engagement with the life of the church in ways that are spiritually, physically and emotionally meaningful to you as a member!

Discover

We are glad you've discovered First Lutheran and are excited to learn more about you, and for you to learn more about the church!

The First Step in getting more deeply connected is to attend a 4-week First Steps Group.
Each session includes an Alpha ministry video which leads into a guided discussion about faith formation with current members. You will also have the opportunity to make some first friends and meet our leadership.

More

During the First Steps sessions you will be given the opportunity to start the formal membership process if you so choose.

We will use a Spiritual Gifts Inventory to help you connect with the ministries and opportunities that will be the most personally upliffting and fullfilling for your faith journey.

You will also have further opportunities to meet more staff, leaders and other members during meet-and-greet sessions.

All memberships are reviewed by our church council in accordance with church bylaws.

Together!

Welcome to Membership!

During the New Members Celebration you will be officially welcomed into the congregation; but this is the beginning – not the end!

Our caring staff and leadership will continue to help you navigate the groups and events of the congregation to ensure you are seen, cared for, and your spiritual needs are being met.
